Pre-operative Instructions

  • Please ensure that dogs, cats and Ferrets have nothing to eat from 9pm the night before their operation, and no liquid to drink after 8am on the morning of the procedure. Cats should be kept indoors overnight with a litter tray.
  • Pocket pets such as rabbits, Guinea pigs, hamsters, caged birds etc. Must NOT be starved. They should have access to food and water overnight and on the morning of the procedure. We would request that you bring in a small supply of their usual food for during their recovery.
  • Please bring your pet to the surgery between 8.30am, unless previously arranged. The admissions nurse will complete a consent form with you. Please have a contact phone number that you can leave with us.
  • To ensure the safety of your pet, please bring cats to the surgery in escape-proof containers. Dogs arriving at the surgery must be on a lead.
  • A full clinical examination is carried out prior to anaesthesia; such an examination will not detect all possible illnesses. A pre-surgical blood test is advisable to forewarn of any existing problems not evident on physical examination.
  • Unless advised otherwise expect your pet to be discharged later the same day. Please telephone the surgery after 2.00pm to arrange a collection time.
