Laura Matthews

Laura Matthews – Senior Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Laura joined PetCare in June 2003 as our Student Veterinary Nurse. Since being with us, Laura has progressed and is now our Senior Qualified Veterinary Nurse. After successfully passing her exams in June 2010, she has been awarded her nursing qualification. Laura’s commitment and determination to achieve her qualification ensures your pet receives the best care and most up to date and competent nursing knowledge. Her certificate is a major achievement for her, the practice and more importantly, owners and their pets.

She works closely with the vets assisting in consultations, monitoring anaesthesia during operations, and as senior nurse is responsible for ensuring your pet receives the best possible care and attention. Laura also proudly conducts her own daily nurse consults, educating owners on preventative healthcare. She shares her home with four chocolate Labradors, Ocean, Baxter, Taz and Roxy and three rescue cats Noddy, Destiny and Toffee.

Abbey Waygood

Abbey Waygood - Part Time Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Abbey is the newest member of our nursing team joining us in May 2010. She worked at Grove Lodge vets in Worthing for over eleven years, and has since returned to her vocation after a two-year career break to start a family. Abbey brings a vast amount of knowledge and understanding to our team and we feel she is valuable to our team, pet owners and their pets.

Abbey has joined the nursing team working closely with both Laura and the vets assisting in consultations and monitoring anaesthesia during operations. As well as this, she supports both owners and their pets post operatively, offering valuable advice. Abbey also proudly conducts her own daily nurse consults, educating owners on life long preventative healthcare. She shares her home with two guinea pigs, Paddy and Pike.

Kate Smith

Kate Smith - Part Time Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Kate began nursing back in 1990 at a practice in Southampton where she progressed from Trainee to Head Nurse, completing her nursing qualifications in 1991. She stayed with the practice for nine years and it was there that she met Nicholas.

She and Nicholas moved to Rustington in October 1999, where she has taken on many roles within the PetCare Team.

With two rapidly growing up children she spreads her time between school, her time at the surgery as Veterinary Nurse and looking after the family pets, Misty-Blue and William the cats, the four chickens, two hamsters, numerous fish and dog walking with their Border Terrier, Dexter.

Anne Watkins

Anne Watkins - Student Veterinary Nurse

Anne joined PetCare in August 2007 as our Veterinary Nursing Assistant and in September 2011 started her Veterinary Nurse Training at Brinsbury College. She works closely with the nurses, supporting their role in caring for our hospitalised and day care patients. She helps to ensure that the patients are warm and comfortable, that they have food, water and generally lots of TLC! She has also taken on the responsibility of creating our Pet Of The Month Stories on display in reception!

Anne has a keen interest in wildlife and has set up her own rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary in her back garden! She therefore adopts any injured or orphaned wildlife that are bought into the surgery and nurses them back to health. She shares her home with rats Parker-Joe, Molly-Mae and Roux.
