THE UNFORTUNATE TRUTHS ABOUT FLEAS

Truth is

The flea cycle is a tough thing to battle. Most people with flea issues find that fleas seem to keep coming in waves, again and again, making the fight nearly impossible. It isn’t. We’ll agree that it is hard, and it takes a lot of work, but you can end your flea problem once and for all by adjusting to the life cycle and striking from multiple angles.

Truth is

One little flea can quickly become one big problem. In fact, in only 21 days one flea can become 1,000. Just take a look at the life cycle below.

Truth is

If you see fleas on your pet, there will certainly be flea eggs, larvae and pupae in your home too.

 Truth is

Only 5% of a flea problem is on your pet, and 95%is in the home as eggs, larvae and pupae.

How?!  (We hear you say)

  • Fleas live and feed on your pet and the females lay upto 50 eggs a day.
  • Eggs fall off your pet where ever it goes – on the sofa, the carpets, beds and perhaps even in your car.
  • Eggs hatch into larvae, which move away from light, deep into cracks and crevices, carpets and furnishings and spin cocoons (pupae) to develop into adult fleas.
  • Pupae hatch out when they sense warmth, carbon dioxide and vibration – a meal is nearby!!!

Fortunately, there are things you can do to protect your pet, yourself and your home from them and the problems they cause.

Step 1 – TREAT YOUR PET

Flea control MUST start with your pet(s), because they are the blood source for the flea – without it, the fleas can’t live. The best flea protection available on the market comes in the form of veterinary recommended topical flea products. We have products that kill adult fleas on your pet and prevent the development of eggs, larvae and pupae in your home; they are easy to apply and affordable.

Step 2 – TREAT THE ENVIRONMENT

After treating EVERY pet in your household, it’s time to move on to the house itself. This is often the toughest part.

Again, the best and most effective protection available on the market comes in the form of veterinary recommended environmental sprays. We have a product that is long lasting and has a triple action formula to break the flea cycle and will protect your home for up to 12 months – it even has a pleasant floral fragrance!

It is vitally important to use environmental sprays according to the manufactures guidelines – and follow this link ‘five steps to success guide’.

Ensure to wash your pets bedding above 60 degrees to remove any eggs, larvae and pupae. Regularly vacuum your home for the same reason and ensure vacuum bags are emptied immediately – flea eggs can hatch in your vacuum cleaner, starting the life cycle all over again.

By allowing your treated pet into all the infested areas of your home ensures that any new fleas that hatch out will jump onto your pet and be killed off that way, before they have the chance to feed and lay new eggs.

It is worth mentioning at this stage that as with many things – PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
